Here's where kids can find free or reduced meals this summer in the QCA region

Multiple local school districts are offering free or reduced meals to kids during the summer months. Here's where you can find a meal site.

DAVENPORT, Iowa — As the school year ends and summer is beginning, multiple local school districts are starting their summer meal programs. Kids are able to receive either free or reduced meals at various sites across the News 8 region.

Davenport

The 2024 Summer Food Service Program offers free meals to children up to 18 years old with no restrictions on income in order to be eligible. The program runs from June 10 through July 26, with the only days off being July 4 and July 5; however, some locations won't begin service until June 17.

Coni Dobbels, supervisor of food and nutrition for Davenport Community Schools, said kids don't need to live in Davenport to receive a meal. There's no registration needed, either; just walk up and get a meal.

"These meals are so important because sometimes when school’s out, kids don’t have access to nutritious meals," Dobbels said. "We provide fruits and vegetables and a complete meal for them, and we just want to make sure the kids are being fed well during the summer months when there is no school."

During the first day of the program, Davenport served about 800 meals. Last summer, they served nearly 28,000 meals in total.

Meals will be served on a first-come, first-served basis. Here's where you can go to find one:
