Davenport kitchen fire injures 1 person

The U.S. Fire Administration says cooking is the leading cause of house fires and house fire injuries.

DAVENPORT, Iowa — One person was injured in an apparent cooking fire in Davenport on Wednesday, Sept. 4, officials said.

According to the Davenport Fire Department, crews responded to the 3500 block of W. Hayes St. around 5:30 p.m. First responders found smoke inside the home and determined that the fire had originated in the home's kitchen. The fire was extinguished before officials arrived.

The fire caused damage to the walls and ceiling of the home. The home is still inhabitable, according to fire officials. 

One person was injured and transported by private vehicle to be treated. The fire's cause is under investigation.
