DAVENPORT, Iowa — UPDATE (March 1): A fight between two men Monday night, Feb. 28 at the GD Express gas station resulted in the death of one of them, according to the Davenport Police Department.
First responders arrived on scene at about 9:30 p.m. to find 25-year-old Corey Martin had been shot. Surveillance video revealed that Martin and 23-year-old Demetrius Howard got into a fight inside the store, according to police. The video showed Howard pull out a gun and fire it at Martin as he fled the store, eventually striking him with gunfire and killing him.
Howard fled the scene of the shooting, and police located him at a nearby hotel before arresting him on charges of 1st-degree murder and felon in possession of a firearm. He was being held at the Scott County Jail on a $1 million cash-only bond as of Tuesday afternoon, according to the police department.
Howard was previously convicted with 1st-degree burglary in 2015, domestic abuse with injury in 2016, a second domestic conviction in 2017 as well as felony resisting a peace officer with injury and domestic battery in 2020, according to criminal complaints.
Police said their investigation into Monday night's shooting was ongoing.
