DAVENPORT, Iowa — The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has announced a $13.1 million grant for the City of Davenport through the PROTECT grant program.
The Promoting Resilient Operations for Transformative , Efficient, Cost -savings Transportation aims to ensure surface transportation resilience to natural hazards including climate change, sea level rise, flooding, extreme weather events, and other natural disasters.
"I'd like to thanks FHWA as well as our federal, state, and local partners, who supported this application. In addition, I would like to thank the staff for their work in continuing to pursue and write these grants on behalf of the City of Davenport. The community identified better flood mitigation efforts as a a key goal, which resulted in the Flood Resiliency Plan. This $13.1 million dollar investment advances that plan." said Davenport Mayor Mike Matson.
The funding will support the City's Mississippi River Flood Resiliency Plan, which focuses on road raises, street repairs and traffic safety improvements. These projects will help establish a permanent flood detour route for major flood events, safeguard access to the Centennial and Arsenal Bridges during flooding periods and enhance transportation safety at the intersections of 3rd and 4th Streets at River Drive.
