Man charged with arson after house fire breaks out in East Moline early Wednesday

East Moline police have arrested one man after determining he used an accelerant to start the fire.

EAST MOLINE, Ill. — Update: The East Moline Police Department said the cause of the fire was arson, and they have arrested 22-year-old suspect Sean Gaylord.

While on the scene, authorities determined the fire was started by using an accelerant, according to an East Moline Police report. 

After investigation, police identified Gaylord as the suspect, and he was later charged with arson.

Listed as a Class 1 Felony, Gaylord could be charged a fine up to $25,000 and face 4-15 years in prison. He's currently being held at the Rock Island County Jail on a $75,000 bond.

No one was reportedly inside the structure at the time of the fire.

A GoFund Me has been set up for the family who lives in the home.

Original: Firefighters were called at about 12:15 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20 to a house fire on 12th Avenue, not far from the John Deere Information Systems building.

Firefighters were able to get the fire under control by 2 a.m. Wednesday, and crews on scene say no one was hurt. 

The cause of the fire remained under investigation as of Wednesday morning.
