MOLINE, Ill. — Thursday marks six years since 22-year-old Corey Harrell Jr. was shot and killed in broad daylight while driving in downtown Moline on Halloween, and police continue seeking the public's help in solving the case.
The deadly shooting happened around 10:10 a.m. on Oct. 31, 2018, near Moline City Hall. Moline police said shots were fired initially along River Drive and 23rd Street, then near 19th Street and ended near City Hall at 7th Avenue and 16th Street. Police said they heard the gunshots from the police department. At the scene near City Hall, they found Harrell Jr., of Moline, dead in a van.
After the shooting, officials said they were looking for a small, black SUV that would likely be occupied by two or three males wearing Halloween masks.
In October 2021, three persons of interest were named in the case: Alonzo 'Zo' Cole, Thomas Elijah-Hughes and Preston 'Reno' Orr.
Officials said that those three are still persons of interest in the case, stating that Orr's girlfriend at the time had rented a black Hyundai Tucson that was observed in surveillance video.
No arrests have been made. If you know anything, you're asked to call Crime Stoppers at 309-762-9500 or to call the Moline Police Department directly at 309-524-2140.
