Police: 3 injured after man opens fire in Clinton bar

Witnesses identified 39-year-old Ralph Antonio Beal as the suspect, who fled the scene and was later arrested in Whiteside County in Illinois.

CLINTON, Iowa — Editor's Note: The above video was captured on a Ring doorbell camera across the street from where the Clinton bar shooting occurred. 

Three people are injured after a man opened fire at a bar in Clinton early Sunday morning, according to an arrest affidavit. 

Around 1:15 a.m. Dec. 17, officers from the Clinton Police Department responded to a shots fired call at Ohana's Neighborhood Bar, located at 92 Main Ave. According to the affidavit, officers learned several victims had sustained gunshot wounds. Officers spoke with several witnesses, who identified 39-year-old Ralph Antonio Beal as the suspect. The affidavit lists surveillance video as physical evidence as well. 

According to witness testimony outlined in the affidavit, Beal had allegedly opened fire inside the bar before two customers subdued him and took his firearm. Beal had fled the scene before officers arrived. 

While officers were still at the bar, the Whiteside County Sheriff's Office in Illinois received a call about a man at a gas station with serious injuries. According to the affidavit, this man was later identified as Beal. Deputies located the vehicle he was reported to be with, which was registered in his name. Beal was arrested and his injuries were consistent with being subdued at the bar. 

Officers responded to MercyOne's emergency department where three people were being treated for gunshot wounds. Two of the victims were in critical condition with the other sustaining a minor facial gunshot wound. At the time of publication, information on the victims and their current conditions is unknown. 

Beal faces the following charges for the incident:

  • Reckless use of a firearm causing serious injury 
  • Two counts of willful injury causing serious injury 
  • Willful injury causing body injury
  • Possession of a weapon or offensive weapon by a felon

Beal is in custody at the Clinton County Jail with a cash bond of $100,000. The case remains under investigation by the Clinton Police Department and anyone with information is asked to contact the department at (565) 243-1458 or Clinton County Crime Stoppers at 1(888) 883-8015.
