MUSCATINE, Iowa — Peace Officers Memorial Day honors local, state, and federal peace officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice, or who have been disabled, in the line of duty.
The City of Muscatine is honoring its fallen members on May 15. In the history of the Muscatine Police Department, four of its members have been killed in the line of duty.
The department has been organized in Muscatine since May 10, 1839.
The fallen officers honored are:
- Thomas Moore- the second law enforcement officer killed in Iowa's history in 1869.
- Jacob Neibert - killed by gunfire in 1896.
- Theodore Gerischer -killed by gunfire in 1911.
- Menzo Grady - died from a heart attack in 1947.
