CHARLOTTE, Iowa — A 5-year-old boy was critically injured after his playhouse caught on fire Tuesday afternoon in Charlotte, according to a release sent by the Clinton County Sheriff's Office.
Shortly after 4 p.m. on May 2, area departments responded to 229 1st Street for a report of a children's playhouse on fire, with a child burn victim on scene.
When crews arrived, they worked to put out the fire of a wooden playset in the backyard of the home.
The victim was immediately given treatment for his injuries. He was first taken to Genesis Hospital in DeWitt, then airlifted by Med-Force Air Ambulance to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
The 5-year-old remains in Iowa City as of Wednesday afternoon and is listed in critical condition. His identity is not being released at this time.
The Clinton County Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by the Charlotte Fire Department, Goose Lake Fire Department, Genesis Ambulance, Med-Force Air Ambulance and the Iowa State Fire Marshal's Office.
The case remains under investigation by the Clinton County Sheriff's Office and Iowa State Fire Marshal's Office.
