CEDAR COUNTY, Iowa — Editor's Note: A previous version of this story said the house fire occurred in Wheatland, Iowa, which is in Clinton County. The fire did occur in Cedar County right near the two counties' border, but was in a rural area with a Wheatland address. The story has been updated for clarity.
A Cedar County woman was found dead after a fire at her home Tuesday evening, officials say.
Shortly before 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 27, the Cedar County Sheriff's Office Dispatch learned of a house fire along Hoover Highway in rural Wheatland, just outside the border of Clinton County.
A resident of the home, 77-year-old Janet Stafford-Becthold, was found dead inside.
Officials say the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
According to a press release, numerous personnel were dispatched to the scene, including the Oxford Junction Fire Department, Lowden Fire Department, Oxford Junction Ambulance, Tipton Ambulance and deputies with the sheriff's office. The Iowa's Fire Marshal Office also responded to the scene.
