A GoFundMe has been launched to support the memorial and family of a construction worker struck and killed by a car on Tuesday, Oct. 19 and it's already exceeding its goals.

Pearson Franklin, a 20-year-old construction worker from New London, Iowa, died due to injuries he suffered when he was struck by a car on the Great River Bridge Tuesday morning. His co-worker Andrew Whitcomb, 35, of Burnside, Illinois, also died from injuries suffered in the incident.

The fundraiser was created in the afternoon after the crash with a goal of $2,000, and as of the publishing of this story, donations have totaled up to $7,410.

The GoFundMe was created by Kenna Smith on behalf of the Mount Pleasant High School Class of 2020, which Franklin was a member of. According to Smith, many classmates wanted to find a way to honor him and help his family.

"Pearson was always a class clown in high school and never failed to bring a smile to our faces," she said in the post.
