DAVENPORT, Iowa — A Tuesday afternoon fire at a vacant duplex along the 600 block of N. Marquette St. has left one person dead, according to a release from the Davenport Fire Department.

A total of 18 fire personnel responded to the scene just after 4 p.m. The fire marshal was there first and found flames coming from the southwest corner of the duplex. The fire burned up the exterior of the two-story wooden building.

Crews were able to extinguish the "main body" of the fire in just 10 minutes after attacking the flames from the outside of the building. The fire extended to the attic area, so crews entered the building to make sure the hidden fire on the second floor was out.

Firefighters forced their way into the building since it was boarded up. Once inside, they discovered the body of a "civilian victim." No other details about the body have been released by the fire department as of this publishing.

The fire department reported no firefighter injuries in this incident. However, the cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
