ALEDO, Ill. — A pillar of the Mercer County community has passed away.
Bill Glenn passed away on Thursday, Feb. 15, according to an obituary posted online. The Aledo resident was 70 years old.
The obituary said that Glenn "was just the kindest person. He had a smile that would light up the room. His laugh was something that would make you laugh. You knew it was Bill even if you didn’t see him because of his booming voice. His love language was acts of service for others. He just plain loved to help others."
News 8 introduced viewers to Glenn back in September, when he was nominated for the Pay It Forward award. Every week, Glenn would help the Mercer County Health Department deliver hundreds of pounds of food to community members in need of assistance. When News 8 asked what compelled him to help others, he had a simple answer.
“I lived on a farm most of my life, and you help people in the church, and it was just the way I was brought up, and I just continue that now," Glenn said.
Services for Glenn are scheduled for 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 21 at the Aledo United Methodist Church. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. and run until the beginning of funeral services.
