Bicyclist hit and killed in crash with truck, Iowa State Patrol says

69-year-old Wayne Wesley Hayes of Guthrie Center was cycling down Highway 44 Wednesday evening when he was hit by a truck, the Iowa State Patrol crash report says.

GUTHRIE COUNTY, Iowa — A Guthrie Center bicyclist was hit and killed by a pickup truck on Wednesday evening, an Iowa State Patrol crash report says. 

The bicyclist was towing a bicycle buggy and heading west on Highway 44 just east of Bluff Street around 5:40 p.m. on Wednesday when a westbound truck hit him. 

First responders transported the bicyclist, identified as 69-year-old Wayne Wesley Hayes of Guthrie Center, to the Guthrie County Hospital, where he later died from his injuries. 

The truck driver, 83-year-old Francis Junior Flanery from Panora, was not injured in the crash. 

It's unclear what caused the collision. At this time, no charges have been filed against Flanery.
