Bettendorf teenager dead after Friday morning crash, police believe alcohol was a factor

Police believe alcohol was a factor in a single-vehicle crash that killed an 18-year-old Bettendorf man on Friday, Aug. 16.

Police believe alcohol played a factor in a single-vehicle crash that killed an 18-year-old Bettendorf man on Friday, Aug. 16.

According to a news release, Bettendorf police responded to the 700 block of 15th Street in Bettendorf at 3:15 a.m. to a report of a crash. First responders found that a vehicle was traveling south on 15th Street when it lost control, skidded sideways and struck a parked car on the east side of the street.

The car was occupied by a 19-year-old male driver and an 18-year-old male passenger, both Bettendorf residents. 

The vehicle sustained heavy damage on the passenger side of the vehicle, resulting in the passenger becoming trapped and needing to be extracted from the vehicle. 

The passenger was transported to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries. 

The vehicle's driver was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Police believe alcohol was a factor in the accident. After the investigation is completed, it will be determined if any charges will be filed.
