Bettendorf school bus strikes pedestrian causing serious injuries

A man sustained life-threatening injuries after being struck by a school bus in Bettendorf on Wednesday, Aug. 14.

Bettendorf police responded to the pedestrian accident at the intersection of Devils Glen Road and Tanglefoot Lane just before 9:30 a.m.

According to police, an 81-year-old man was walking south on Devils Glen Road and crossing Tanglefoot Lane at a crosswalk at the time of the accident. The school bus, contracted by the Pleasant Valley School District through Durham School Services, was turning left onto Tanglefoot Lane when the crash occurred.

The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital with serious life-threatening injuries.

There were no students on the bus. The driver of the bus, a 41-year-old, woman remained at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing and there is no additional information at this time.
