BETTENDORF, Iowa — A Davenport man has died from his injuries after being hit by a school bus in Bettendorf last Wednesday, police said.
Around 9:22 a.m. on Aug. 14, Bettendorf police responded to the intersection of Devils Glen Road and Tanglefoot Lane for an accident involving a pedestrian.
Police said a man, who has now been identified as 81-year-old John Hayes of Davenport, was walking south on Devils Glen Road and crossing Tanglefoot Lane at a crosswalk when he was struck. The school bus was turning left onto Tanglefoot Lane when the incident occurred. No students were on the bus at the time and the driver, a 41-year-old East Moline woman, remained at the scene.
According to an update sent Monday, Hayes died from his injuries the next day, Aug. 15, at the University of Iowa Medical Center.
No charges have been filed at this time as the investigation is ongoing, according to police. The bus was with Durham School Services and is contracted by the Pleasant Valley School District.
