Students from Bettendorf HS compete at a Trebuchet contest

Bettendorf High School students competed against students from Moline, Pleasant Valley, North Scott and Riverdale high schools during the annual trebuchet contest.

BETTENDORF, Iowa — On Friday, April 19, Bettendorf High School held a trebuchet competition in which students from Bettendorf, Pleasant Valley, North Scott, Moline and Riverdale high schools competed against each other.

The 22 teams competing were tasked with launching raw eggs from their trebuchets at targets 75 feet, 100 feet and 125 feet away.

Teams had 30 minutes to launch four eggs at the bull's-eye, with three of the four launches going toward their scoring total. Teams scored more points based on how close to the bull's eye their egg landed.

The 2024 QCESC Trebuchet trophy winners were as follows:

  • 1st place: Team Builder Pro 2 from Pleasant Valley High School
  • 2nd place: Power Puff from Pleasant Valley High School
  • 3rd place: Blue Egg Kings from Bettendorf High School
  • Most Innovative Design: Scrambled Kings from Bettendorf High School
  • Longest Throw: Best Builders from Pleasant Valley (170 feet)

It was a beautiful day for trebuchets! Today, we held our annual trebuchet contest, in which QC high school students competed by launching eggs at targets using their own trebuchets. #BETTerTogether #BettPride
