Bettendorf families get moving at 14th annual Healthiest State Walk

Bettendorf hosted its 14th Annual Healthiest State Walk, encouraging families to participate in wellness activities as part of a statewide initiative.

BETTENDORF, Iowa — The City of Bettendorf is once again inviting Quad Cities residents to get outside and get moving as part of Iowa's Healthiest State Initiative. Each year, Iowans are encouraged to participate in activities that promote physical well-being, and Bettendorf’s Kiwanis Park has become a hub for the local community to join the statewide movement.

On Wednesday evening, families gathered for the 14th annual Healthiest State Walk, an event featuring a variety of wellness activities like pickleball, gaga ball and leisurely walks around the park’s trails. For Davenport resident Sean Hanley and his children, attending the event has become a family tradition.

“We’re excited to hear about it again this year in school,” Hanley said. “It’s a good way to get active, and they have them walk around on the pathway, so they get a little extra exercise in.”

Bettendorf Parks and Recreation Manager Liz Solis-Willis said the event aims to inspire people across Iowa to spend at least 30 minutes walking outdoors.

“The initiative is really just to get people out in the state of Iowa, and get out and walk for 30 minutes. We do see a variety of people,” Solis-Willis explained.

Officials say events like these not only boost physical activity but also improve emotional well-being, contributing to a healthier Iowa.

The Iowa Healthiest State Initiative is a non-partisan, non-profit organization with the goal of ensuring each Iowan lives their healthiest life. For more information on the annual walk and other wellness events in Bettendorf, visit here.
