Trinity and Augustana Colleges offering new direct-entry nursing program

Students will be able to study two years at both schools and graduate with their Bachelor's of Science in Nursing.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — Augustana College and Trinity College are partnering on a new nursing program.

Under the new "2+2" program, high schools students admitted to Augustana will also be guaranteed a spot at Trinity's Bachlor's of Science in Nursing program.

Participants will spend two years studying at both schools. They will also have faculty advisors at both colleges. Schools officials said the new program was created after they received hundreds of inquiries about a BSN program.

"For us to be able to say to them, 'Yep, we've got a direct-entry program. You know, you do some time here with us, you do some time at Trinity.' That is huge for admissions people to talk about, so it really does help us in that competitive world," Augustana President Andrea Talentino said.

The schools are still collaborating to finalize plans on how students participating in the joint direct-entry program can pursue additional minors and certificates while working on their BSNs.
