Quad Cities to host Walk to End Alzheimer's on Sept. 14

There's no fee to register for the two-mile walk, but organizers encourage participants to raise money for the event.

MOLINE, Ill. — The Alzheimer's Association is bringing its Walk to End Alzheimer's to the Quad Cities on Saturday, Sept. 14.

Registration for the two-mile walk begins at 8 a.m. at Vibrant Arena, and the walk itself will take off at 9:45 a.m. There's no fee to register for the event, but organizers encourage participants to raise money if they choose to join.

“This is a pivotal moment in the fight against Alzheimer’s. There are now treatments that can give families more valuable time with their loved one,” Megan Olsen, Walk Manager for the Alzheimer’s Association in the Quad Cities said in a press release. “We hope that everyone in the community can join us by starting a Walk team to help the Alzheimer’s Association raise awareness and funds for families facing the disease and vital research to find more treatments, and ultimately a cure."

Organizers said the funding raised through the walk will allow the Alzheimer's Association to help provide care for Alzheimer's patients and encourage research into the deadly disease. According to the Alzheimer's Association, there are more than 312,000 people in Iowa and Illinois living with the disease and nearly 411,000 caregivers are helping provide for them.
