KEWANEE, Ill. — A suspect has been arrested on arson charges after allegedly setting fire to a structure in Kewanee, officials said.
Around 12:45 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 15, first responders were called to the 300 block of North East Street for the structure fire. According to police, Kewanee fire officials quickly put out the blaze.
The fire department, police department and the Illinois State Fire Marshal's Office immediately conducted an investigation and determined the fire was intentionally set. Police said a suspect, 51-year-old Allatonie Housley, was arrested hours later around 6:30 a.m.
Housley is being held at the Henry County Jail on the following preliminary charges: arson, criminal damage to property and criminal trespass to real property.
Arson is a class two felony in Illinois and carries a potential sentence of three to seven years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
