Army and Navy go head to head at Rock Island Arsenal flag football game

The two teams will gather to watch the national Army and Navy football game next weekend.

ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL, Ill. — Update: Army and Navy members took to the field at Rock Island Arsenal for a friendly game of flag football. The event was jumpstarted with a cannon fire.

Previous Story:

Military members will have a chance to settle an age-old rivalry in a time-honored tradition.

On Friday, Dec. 1, the Rock Island Arsenal will host members of the Army and Navy for their annual flag football game at Memorial Field. The action kicks off at 1 p.m., but fans can arrive as early as 11:30 a.m. to get a nice pregame meal from some local food trucks. Arsenal officials recommend bringing your own chair.

Admission to the event is free, but because it's not considered a "special event," spectators will need to have access to the installation in order to attend.

There's one more important thing to know; things will get a little loud on gameday and the day leading up to it! The Arsenal will be firing a cannon during kickoff and while rehearsing for the big game. The first shot is expected to go off sometime between 1 and 3 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 30, and the next will ring out between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 1.
