'All the help we can get would be great' | American Red Cross is asking for your help amid storms, floods and fires

In the past month, the organization has helped many Quad Cities residents who have been impacted by tornadoes, flooding and fires.

MOLINE, Ill. — It's all hands on deck for American Red Cross Executive Director Trish Burnett and her team. In the past month, the organization has helped families with several disasters.

"We had tornadoes that hit various places near the Quad Cities," Burnett said. "There's been fires that displaced families and we've been helping with the flood. We are responding to so many events."

Burnett said responding those these events, requires more hands to help out. They've reached out to nearby chapters, asking for volunteers.

Shay Simmons, a former U.S. Marine from McLean County who helps with the Bloomington chapter, said she's doing everything she can to stay busy while making an impact.

"I'm used to doing something important," Simmons said. "I could call this an ego trip, but this is something that is needed and that helps not only me but also those in need."

Nancy Reisabieter, a Quad Cities resident who lost her home due to the flood, said the Red Cross has helped her tremendously.

"I just bundled what I could into about six bags," Reisabieter said. " I went out the door and ask around where I could stay. I have no family here or anything so having the Red Cross is a blessing. I can't thank them enough."

Trish Burnett said, to continue making an impact in communities in need, the Red Cross needs your help.

"If you have any time, even if it's one hour, we would love to have you here and help out," Burnett said. "Whatever it is, we will find something that you find meaningful and is important to do. Every help we can get would mean everything to us."
