ALEDO, Ill. — Former Aledo Police Chief and City Administrator Christopher Sullivan has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor battery charge, court documents show.
Sullivan was arrested back in August 2022 after over a year of accusations were made about him striking a man during an arrest on May 7, 2020. The Illinois State Police launched an investigation in June 2021.
He was initially charged with two counts of official misconduct, a class 3 felony, and battery. Those misconduct charges were dropped as a part of the plea deal, court documents show. Sullivan was ordered to pay a $2,500 fine.
A representative from the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board was in court Thursday and will review the investigation conducted by the state police to determine if Sullivan can remain a certified police officer in the state.
News 8 received a statement from the City of Aledo Thursday evening announcing Sullivan's retirement, as he was on administrative leave. It can be read in its entirety below:
"The City of Aledo is aware of the outcome of Chris Sullivan’s legal matter and, in light of this outcome, is announcing Mr. Sullivan’s retirement from the City of Aledo Police Department.
We fully support the justice system and appreciate the Court’s diligence and fairness in this case. We would like to thank Chris for his years of service to the City of Aledo as both Chief of Police and City Administrator."
