Fallen tree leads to closure of Agape Center

The center is making arrangements for other food pantries to take their inventory and help the families they serve until they get a new location up and running.

BETTENDORF, Iowa — The AGAPE Center's food and house pantry in Bettendorf is searching for a new home.

The organization's current location on Devils Glen Road was damaged on Tuesday, April 30 after a large Oak Tree fell on it. As a result, AGAPE is closed until further notice and is not accepting any donations. Pantry officials said the facility served approximately 100 families on both sides of the river every week, and they're hoping to stay in Scott County when they're able to reopen.

"As long as we have a large enough space that can hold the capacity of what we need to be able to put out into the general public to suit their needs and help their families, that's what we're most concerned about," Don Wells, CEO of the Greater Bettendorf Community Foundation said.

Wells said that AGAPE is making arrangements with other food pantries to take its inventory and provide services to the families that usually come to them until a new location is up and running.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help the organization find a new home.
