Single-vehicle accident kills 22-year-old woman in East Moline

One person was declared dead at the scene of the single-vehicle accident after 9 a.m. on Monday.

EAST MOLINE, Ill. — Update:

The victim in Monday's fatal single-car accident in East Moline has been identified as Amia Weathers, 22, of Moline, according to Rock Island County coroner Brian Gustafson.

Gustafson says an autopsy was performed Tuesday in Oregon, Ill., and the preliminary results show that Weathers died from multiple traumatic injuries.

The Rock Island County Sheriff's Office released that a silver 2007 Ford Edge was being driven by Kendra Lee Curtis, 22 of Moline, at a high rate of speed when she lost control, causing the vehicle to roll.

Weathers, a passenger in the car, was ejected from the vehicle. A 24-year-old male from East Moline was a rear seat passenger and was also injured in the crash and transported to a local hospital.

The accident remains under investigation by multiple agencies.

A single-car crash led to the death of an occupant of the car Monday morning in East Moline, according to Rock Island County Coroner Brian Gustafson. 

The Rock Island County Sheriff's Office and the East Moline Police Department responded to a single-vehicle accident around 9:30 a.m. in the 2600 block of 19th Street.

According to a press release from the Rock Island County Sheriff's department, the vehicle was southbound on 19th Street when it lost control, causing the vehicle to roll, ejecting one of its occupants.

One female occupant was declared dead at the scene.

A second female and one male occupant were transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.

Roads were blocked off in both directions for several hours for accident reconstruction. Investigators on the scene were using drones as part of their evidence-gathering process.

The Rock Island County Sheriff's Office Accident Reconstruction Team and the East Moline Police Department are investigating. The case remains open and active.

An autopsy on the victim is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 8.The names of the individuals involved in the accident are not being released at this time.
