5 residents rescued from apartment fire in Galesburg

Investigators believe the blaze was started intentionally.

GALESBURG, Ill. — Galesburg fire crews battled an early-morning fire at a multi-family apartment.

According to officials with the Galesburg Fire Department, the department responded to a fire at 684 Home Boulevard shortly before 6:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 8. Firefighters found four residents trapped on a second-floor balcony and used ground ladders to rescue them. The acting Captain went up to the second floor and rescued a fifth occupant. No injuries were reported.

Fire investigators believe the blaze was started intentionally. 

The incident is still under investigation.
