3 children killed in Clinton County crash

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the crash took place when one vehicle rear-ended a stationary vehicle on Highway 30.

CLINTON COUNTY, Iowa — Three children are dead following a Monday morning crash in Clinton County.

According to an Iowa State Patrol crash report, a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee was sitting stationary in the outside eastbound lane of Highway 30, around the 3700 block. A 2023 Dodge 4500 flatbed truck towing a trailer was driving eastbound and rear-ended the Jeep, which was sent into the south ditch. The Jeep came to a rest on the south shoulder.

Three children, each younger than five years old, were killed in the crash, and another child and two adults were also injured. The names of the victims haven't been released yet, and the crash is still under investigation.

The eastbound lanes of Highway 30 were closed for over four hours, Clinton County officials said. The three children were not using seatbelts at the time of the crash, per ISP's report.
