WALCOTT, Iowa — Two people are dead after a single-car crash on I-80 westbound near Walcott on Saturday afternoon.
The Iowa State Patrol released a preliminary report saying that the accident occurred on Saturday, April 14 at 12:26 p.m. near Mile Marker 281, which is three miles west of the Walcott exit.
A 1999 Lexus LX-470 was westbound on I-80 when it lost control for an unknown reason. The car rolled multiple times into the north ditch, coming to rest on its top.
A male in the front passenger seat was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. The male passenger and the female driver were both declared deceased on the scene.
Iowa State Patrol responded to the scene and was assisted by the Scott County Sheriff's Office, the Scott County Medical Examiner, Walcott Fire and Ambulance, Durant Fire, and Brother's Towing.
The names of the victims are being withheld at this time, pending family notification.
