KNOX COUNTY, Ill. — One person is dead following a two-car accident in Knox County.
According to the Knox County Sheriff's Office, the crash took place near the intersection of Knox Highway 4 and Knox Highway 15 shortly after 2 p.m. on Friday, March 1.
Officers believe that a red 1994 Pontiac was travelling north on Knox Highway 15 when they failed to stop at a stop sign. This caused the Pontiac to strike a 2004 Chevrolet truck travelling west on Knox Highway 4, sending both vehicles off the road.
The passenger of the Pontiac, 38-year-old Mariliel Slightom, was killed in the accident, and the vehicle's driver, 41-year-old Charles Slightom, was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Chevrolet, 24-year-old Ariel Harlan, was also hospitalized, but her injuries weren't life-threatening. A two-year-old child also travelling in the Chevrolet was brought to the hospital by family members, but they weren't injured, according to the Knox County Sheriff's Office.
Charles Slightom was charged with disobeying a traffic control drive, driving with a suspended license, driving under the influence, operating an uninsured vehicle and failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
