LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A funeral was held for the Letcher County District Judge who was shot and killed inside his chambers last week.
Mourners gathered at Jenkins High School to honor Judge Kevin Mullins on Sunday, according to his obituary.
Kentucky State Police said the 54-year-old was shot by Sheriff Mickey Stines after an argument.
The shock is still hitting the town of Whitesburg hard. Those who knew Mullins and Stines called them friends and the county clerk even said both men were planning to have lunch hours before the fatal incident.
Investigators have not said what may have led up to the shooting.
Stines is being held in Leslie County and it’s unclear when he will appear in court.
The Letcher County Courthouse has been closed due to the incident and will remain closed until court operations can be resumed, according to their website.
