Iowa delegate discusses his support for Kamala Harris

After deciding to end his reelection bid, President Joe Biden endorsed his Vice President to become the next President of the United States.

IOWA, USA — The 2024 presidential race has been an eventful one, and the latest surprise came when President Joe Biden announced he was stepping down from the presidential race on Sunday, July 21.

Now, he's endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee.

Iowa native Adam Peters is the chair for the Iowa Stonewall Caucus for the Democratic Party. He also acts as a national delegate who will attend the Democratic National Convention in August.

But his first step in politics started before this election.

"So, I've always been involved in politics," said Peters. "Since I was in college, I caucused for then-Senator Barrack Obama. I stayed involved, I volunteered, and I've actually worked on campaigns."

When it comes to this election, the support from Democrats didn't take long to shift after Biden stepped down.

Harris' campaign donations have earned more than $81 million in a 24-hour period, breaking the single-day fundraising record for a political candidate in the process.

"That is an overwhelming amount, a historical amount," Peters said.

Peters also said Quad City Democrats have expressed their support for Harris as well and have actually met well-known Democratic officials face to face.

"It's exciting to be amongst people who have gotten to meet these candidates up close and personal and get a look under the hood," Peters said. "And the people here couldn't be more thrilled about Kamala Harris as the nomination."

Peters said being aware of politics is the only way for things to change.

"Politics touches all parts of our life, Peters said. "And if we want to see change, politics is how we can make that happen."

And making change is why Peters says he'll cast his delegate vote for Harris as the nominee.

The 2024 Democratic National Convention will take place in Chicago from August 19th to August 22nd.
