BETTENDORF, Iowa — Genesis Health System is set to open its new Emergency Department on Dec. 8 in Bettendorf.
It will be the city's first Emergency Department that isn't connected directly to a hospital. Instead, it's attached to the Genesis Healthplex; a multipurpose building that also serves as offices for various medical professionals.
"To segment the entire patient population is really the highest quality of care," Jordan Voigt, president of Genesis Medical Center- Davenport, said. "In addition, we have the NICU right at the East Campus. We always have anesthesia 24 hours on backup, we have the pediatric unit; to have that all centralized, it's truly the best quality of care."
Genesis previously announced in September that it would be consolidating its resources and shutting down its West Campus Emergency Department. That move is still planned to happen on Dec. 6.
The new Emergency Department in Bettendorf is expected to serve 9,600 emergency care patients annually, according to Voigt. It will also include more beds and rooms than the West Campus emergency department, rooms specifically to treat trauma and triage patients, and house a dedicated ambulance bay.
On Dec. 3 between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., Genesis is hosting an open house of the new facility.
