IOWA, USA — Under new recommendations those who wore a mask while in close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19 are not required to quarantine for the standard, recommended two weeks to ensure they're not also contagious.

Iowa Epidemiologist Caitlin Pedati said the recommendations for the state are based on "new information and data" as well as Nebraska and Wyoming's transition to a similar recommendation.

The guidance is intended to keep students in school but Reynolds said masks are still not mandated in the state. When asked how she quantifies consistent mask wearing, Reynolds said she has trust in superintendents of Iowa school districts.

Reynolds also said she agrees with the Iowa Board of Education decision to appoint a new superintendent and chief financial officer in the Davenport Community School District over "the district's failure to make progress" on key issues including how minority students were punished.
