'I really wanted to be here for my kids' | Colorado bar shooting survivor says her hope came from her family

Leah Neugebauer was closing up for the night at Wyler's Pub and Grill when she said gunshots started blasting through the front door.

GREELEY, Colo. — Leah Neugebauer said she did not know if she would ever see her family again after an early morning shooting left her with life-threatening gunshot wounds.

"I was right in front of the front door — we have a rug right there and I was vacuuming and I honestly thought I was being electrocuted," said Neugebauer.

The Greeley Police Department said the shooting happened around 2:26 a.m. at Wyler's Pub and Grill on Saturday, Nov. 30.

Neugebauer said the suspect, 32-year-old Jimmy Cazares, who was arrested that same night, got into a fight with another customer earlier at the pub before returning after they closed.

Neugebauer said that's when Cazares started firing shots into the bar.

"Once I realized that I was being shot I crawled around to the other side of the bar and my arm was hanging off, my hand was hanging off," said Neugebauer.

Somehow, Neugebauer said, she was able to run to the back office where her other employee was hiding.

Neugebauer said in those moments, she thought about her three children.

"Moe, make sure that they call my husband so I can see my kids one last time and that's also what I told the cops when they put the tourniquet on me and in the ambulance I just kept repeating to everybody because I really thought I was gonna die," she said.

Neugebauer told 9NEWS she spent nearly a week in the hospital and did not know if she was going to make it.

"My arm, I have cadaver bone — there was no bone to reconstruct my arm. So my whole life has changed over I don't know why," she said.

Greeley Police said Cazares was booked for attempted 1st degree murder – extreme indifference along with several other charges.

Neugebauer told 9NEWS she refused to let this shooting take away her peace of mind.

"We are not scared of you, you are not brave, you guys are awful people," said Neugebauer.

On Saturday, she told 9NEWS she was ready to move forward with the people she cares about the most.

"It's like, ever since I have been home I appreciate every dirty sock I pick up off the floor, every … just everything I appreciate so much more because I didn't think I would see them again," said Neugebauer.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help with Neugebauer's medical costs.
