HAMPTON, Illinois — Registration for this year's annual Illiniwek Abermination Mountain Bike Race is open to the public now.
The race takes place on Saturday, May 4. The race at Illiniwek Forest Preserve, organized through the Quad Cities Friends of Off-Road Cycling (QCFORC), takes riders across some of the bluffs overlooking the mighty Mississippi River and is packed with flowing corners, wooden berms and descents for riders of all skills. Race organizers have debuted new improvements to this year's course to make the ride even faster.
A children's race will be held at 11:30 a.m. and contains a short loop with "nontechnical double-track trails" with a grass field near a trailhead. Kids nine years old and younger are encouraged to participate, however registration is required.
Adult riders who registered for the full race can partake in a pre-ride trial run and spend the night at the campgrounds before the official race begins.
There are six race events of various distances. More information about the race, including start times are located on the QCFORC website.
The Illiniwek Abermination is part of the Illinois Homegrown Race Series and the Iowa Mountain Bike Championship Series.
