BETTENDORF, Iowa — College for many students can be expensive, and any extra scholarships and grants can help keep those costs low. Eligible area students have an opportunity through the Quad Cities Community Foundation to grab a little extra aid.
The Foundation announced on Nov. 2 that applications have opened for over 70 scholarship opportunities, totaling over $500,000. Scholarships are available for high school seniors and those who have already graduated. Students in trade or technical schools, community colleges and four-year universities are also eligible.
"These scholarships are helping students today, and they are an investment in the future of the Quad Cities," Kelly Thompson, vice president of grantmaking and community initiatives for the Foundation, said.
The scholarship funding is made available through donations collected during the year.
“Our donors care deeply about education and supporting students of all ages in our community,” Sue Hafkemeyer, the Foundation’s president and CEO, said. “We’re honored to support their generosity and help bring these opportunities to local students.”
Students have until Feb. 15, 2024 to apply but are encouraged to start the process early. On the Community Foundation's website, available scholarships are separated by state, financial need, a student's status and career path. Important dates for students and families are also available on the Foundation's scholarship page.
Students who are selected for the scholarships will receive notification between April and May 2024 from the Foundation.
