Moline High School hosts community ribbon cutting for renovated outdoor classroom, patio

After months of hard work, the Moline High School History Club unveiled the school's new outdoor classroom and patio.

MOLINE, Ill. — The community was invited to Moline High School after members of the school's history club completed their renovations to the existing school patio.

The club chose to refurbish this space to create a lasting impact on future students in the district. Before the renovations, this space was overgrown and therefore underutilized.

First, the students resurfaced the original patio, removed the algae in the nearby pond, and weeded the area. The club later re-mulched the area and created posts for a walking exhibit. With some help from district staff, the new patio came together smoothly.

At the unveiling ceremony on Nov. 7, students involved in the project also debuted a new walking gallery in the space, sharing historical information about local landmarks in the Quad Cities. Over 16 areas across the Quad Cities are represented in this outdoor gallery, and additional displays will be added throughout the year.

Soon the Moline History Club plans to add wildflowers, fish to a nearby pond, and additional seating to accommodate students while they study.
