After considering a handful of options, the school district in DeWitt, Iowa has settled on a name: Central DeWitt Community School District.
The change was announced Friday, October 30, 2015 by Superintendent Dr. Dan Peterson. He said that the name change was finalized with a public vote on September 8.
Though the school has been called many things, including Central, Central Clinton, and DeWitt Central, the school will be referred to as “Central DeWitt” moving forward.
“Our public has made this statement with an 89% approval after years of name confusion,” said Dr. Peterson.”
The following names are appropriate to refer to the schools in the district: Central DeWitt Community School District, Central DeWitt High School, Central DeWitt Middle School, Central DeWitt Intermediate School, Ekstrand Elementary School (will not be changed).
According to an abstract of votes, there were a total of 850 votes; only 93 were against changing the prior name of “Central Community School District.” There were 757 votes for the change.
