Ribbon cutting ceremony held for new career advancement center

Building upon their goal to expand their reach to meet students where they live, this DeWitt center is the final location opening to the public.

DEWITT, Iowa — Eastern Iowa Community College administrators held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new DeWitt Career Advancement Center Thursday night. Prior to the center being built, many students living in DeWitt and in nearby towns would have to commute to the Clinton Community College campus.

“This center aligns with our college’s mission and the needs of the community, providing high-quality education and training that prepares a skilled workforce ready for the demands of our area employers,” Brian Kelly, the Clinton Community College president said “This center will host our Career Academy partnerships and provide high school juniors and seniors with the unique opportunity to earn college credit at no charge, while still in high school.”

The 27,000 square foot facility includes lab spaces for:

  • Agriculture
  • Business
  • Construction and CNC Machining
  • Health care

“This building reflects the value we place on the collaborative partnerships we’ve forged with local businesses and our deep commitment to our K-12 partners. We will provide educational opportunities for your students in state-of-the-art facilities with innovative learning tools that allow them to move from the classroom into careers,” Liang Wee, the EICC interim chancellor said.

Eastern Iowa Community College campuses have also opened other facilities at their Muscatine location and at their Scott County school in Bettendorf. All facilities will begin hosting classes in the spring term.
