Nursing scholarship to benefit Black Hawk College students in financial need

The gift of $250,000 will benefit full-time nursing students who maintain at least a 3.0 GPA.

MOLINE, Ill. — Black Hawk College announced a new scholarship endowment fund for its nursing program during a press conference on Monday, Nov. 20.

The family of the late Stanley Anderberg presented the gift of $250,000 to the college, in memory of his late husband, James Cobin. Cobin completed his nursing degree at Black Hawk in 1976.

Anderberg and Cobin's niece Dr. Wendy Hilton-Morrow said it was important for the men to try and make a difference beyond their lifetimes.

"We all know the world needs more nurses, and we need good nurses out there, need a lot more of them," Hilton-Morrow said.

The scholarship fund is being endowed right now, meaning it will take a few years to build enough interest to be distributed.

Black Hawk says the scholarship will be available for six to ten nursing students per year, for up to 20 years after its endowment.
