CAMBRIDGE, Illinois — A domestic disturbance in Cambridge Wednesday morning turned into a homicide, with a 68-year-old woman dead of a stab wound and her husband arrested and charged with first-degree murder.
Officers responded to a disturbance call at the home of William and Cheryl Johnston shortly before 10 a.m. Cheryl Johnston was found with a stab wound and was transported to Genesis Medical Center in Davenport where she was pronounced dead, says the Henry County Sheriff's Office.
According to Henry County Sheriff Jim Padilla there hasn't been a murder in Cambridge since 1992.
"Cambridge is a nice town and it`s very quiet, everything closes up, the sidewalks are all open, the lights go out by like 9 o`clock," said Henry County Sheriff Jim Padilla.
William Johnston, 68, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, aggravated domestic battery and aggravated battery.
The case remains under investigation by the Henry/Mercer Major Crime Task Force.
