When the sun goes down in Rock Island County, officers with the Rock Island County Sheriff's Department come out.
For nearly three years, the Rock Island County Sheriff's Department has relied on their A.C.E. Unit, an acronym for aggressive criminal activity.
The A.C.E. Unit was birthed in April, 2012.
Justin Chisholm, a 15-year veteran of the Rock Island County Sheriff's Department, leads the three-man team.
"We go out and try to look for active criminal activity, whether that be traffic stops, warrants, burglaries or any criminal activity that is in progress at that time," Chisholm said.
The A.C.E. Unit will often follow up on suspicious activity that patrol witnessed earlier in the day, Chisholm said.
Chisholm added that before A.C.E., deputies wouldn't be able to do follow up and instead, an investigator would be called which costs overtime.
During News 8's ride along with the A.C.E. Unit, Chisholm and his crew served warrants, conducted traffic stops and followed up on activity that patrol officers reported from earlier that day.
