Scott County homicide victim identified as 31-year-old woman

Officials have identified the victim as 31-year-old Taylor Escontrias, a resident of Park View, Iowa.

SCOTT COUNTY, Iowa — The Scott County Sheriff's Office has released the name of a victim discovered Thursday in relation to a homicide investigation. 

Officials have identified the victim as Taylor Escontrias, a 31-year-old woman from Park View, Iowa.

On Thursday, March 14, the sheriff's office responded to a car accident with injury near the intersection of 90th Street and Harrison Street in Mt. Joy, near the Mt. Joy Airport entrance. Authorities identified Christopher Behal of Park View as the driver of the vehicle. 

During the accident investigation, authorities received information that led to the discovery of Escontrias dead in Park View.

It's not clear what information from the accident investigation tipped off authorities to the discovery of the victim.

According to court documents, Escontrias was in a relationship and lived with Behal.

Behal has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder, assault while participating in a felony, going armed with intent, domestic abuse assault while displaying or using a weapon and domestic abuse assault with intent to inflict serious injury. 

Behal's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Friday, March 22.
