ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — One of the three men charged in a February fire at the Rock Island Auction Barn has been sentenced to three years in prison.
19-year-old Kadon Svec, who has been in custody since March 7, was sentenced to three years in the Illinois Department of Corrections on Wednesday, Oct. 2.
Svec will get credit for time served, followed by one year of mandatory supervised release. He was also ordered to pay $361,847.80 in restitution over five years. He had previously pleaded guilty to one count of arson on Sept. 5. Since he entered a guilty plea, two of his other charges were dropped.
Svec's alleged accomplices, 22-year-old Matthew E. Wooddell and 23-year-old William T. Kosgard IV, both pleaded not guilty in March and are awaiting trial. They are both in custody.
The fire took place on Feb. 24 and destroyed the former Rock Island Livestock Auction Barn Multiple buildings on the property were total losses and one bull died. The suspects were identified through an arson investigation by the Rock Island Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division and the Rock Island Fire Marshal's Office.
