EAST MOLINE, Ill. — An East Moline man is dead after a being stabbed in own home on Friday, December 18.
The East Moline Police Department responded to a home in the 800 block of Avenue of the Cities after being alerted to an unresponsive person.
At the scene, police found the body of the resident, 64-year-old Rodney Griffin. He was found deceased with multiple stab wounds. Rock Island County Coroner Brian Gustafson later confirmed his identity.
Immediate investigation indicated that Griffin's car was missing from the area. Authorities were able to locate the car in Davenport, Iowa, where they apprehended two people: 60-year-old Kerry Clark and 21-year-old Precious Sims on the charge of possessing a stolen motor vehicle. EMPD Detectives interviewed the pair and determined that they were involved in the incident.
Clark and Sims were both arrested for possession of a stolen motor vehicle and first-degree murder. The duo resides in Scott County Jail pending extradition to Rock Island.
Both Clark and Sims were being held on a $1.5 million bond.
Just down the street from this home is an in-home daycare. That's where area resident Amanda Smet took her two-year-old son to on Friday morning.
She spoke to News 8 about her thoughts on the crime so close to her daycare.
"I went to the same daycare when I was younger myself, and we've never had anything like this happen even when I was growing up," she said.
