Moline schools placed on soft lockdown after possible bomb threat Monday

The high school and nearby Roosevelt Elementary were placed on a soft lockdown after police received a report of a bomb threat.

MOLINE, Ill. — Moline High School and Roosevelt Elementary were placed on a soft lockdown Monday after police were informed of a possible bomb threat in the high school's parking lot.

According to a Moline Police Department news release, a caller dialed 911 just before noon and informed them of the bomb threat. As a result, the high school and nearby Roosevelt Elementary were placed on a soft lockdown, which restricted any entry or exit from the buildings as police investigated the threat.

A search of the interior and exterior of both schools determined there was nothing suspicious, and police informed school officials that the lockdown could be lifted about an hour later.

Police are investigating the source of the call.

In the news release, the Moline Police Department said:

"While we are aware that many schools, libraries, and other facilities across the country continue to get hoax bomb threats, we take each one very seriously. The safety of everyone is our primary concern. We also take fake threats seriously and detectives will be working on following leads and working with the Illinois State Police Statewide Intelligence Center and the FBI on coordinating information across other similar cases."

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers of the Quad Cities at 309-762-9500 or the Moline Police Department at 309-797-0401.
