Rock Island Police detectives have obtained an arrest warrant for 33-year-old Marcus C. Holmes of Rock Island in connection with a fatal hit-and-run accident near the Centennial Bridge on November 1.

The crash killed Abbott Lee Perry, 52, of Davenport, when a stolen Hyundai Azera crashed into Perry's Chevrolet Aveo.

The accident occurred shortly before 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 1 near the intersection of Route 92 and the off-ramp of the Centennial/Stanley Talbot Memorial Bridge in Rock Island.

Witnesses to the crash reported that the driver of the stolen Hyundai exited the car and fled the scene, according to Rock Island Police Department.

The Hyundai had been reported stolen out of Rock Island on Oct. 30.

Rock Island Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division obtained an arrest warrant for Holmes for reckless homicide, two counts of failure to report an accident involving injury, and unlawful possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

Shortly after the accident, Rock Island police chief Richard Landi expressed frustration over what he described as a senseless act.

"The sad part of this is it potentially could have been prevented, because it was a stolen car," he said.
