BURLINGTON, Iowa — The wanted man police were searching for in connection to a shooting has been taken into custody.

Previous reports indicate that Timothy A. Jones, age 22, shot John P. Auwaerter at a home in the 500 block of South Central Avenue back on Monday, October 17, 2016.

The incident happened just before 4 p.m. that day, when Burlington police said Jones shot Auwaerter in the upper body.

Although the gunshot was fired at the South Central Avenue home, police previously said Auwaerter was found less than a half-mile away at South 9th and Cedar Streets shortly after.

Jones was arrested on a warrant for willful injury around 2:40 a.m. on Friday, November 18 during a traffic stop near Irish Ridge Road and Florence Avenue, according to a statement from the Burlington Police Department.  During the traffic stop, a loaded 9mm handgun was found, police said.

“(The handgun) is being sent to the DCI lab for analysis and comparison with other evidence collected to various other reported shootings in the Burlington area recently,” read a statement from police.

Jones was being held at the Des Moines County Correctional Center awaiting a court appearance, the department said.  His bond was set at $10,000.
